So here is the final deal of between the parents and Equality lawyers. Basically there is a one law in Florida which has been causing quite a stir. This law is named by the “Don’t Say Gay” law. This law is all about putting restrictions on the schools, due to the reason that how schools can teach students about gender identity and sexual orientation.

Lot of peoples of Florida were not happy about this that schools are teaching students about gender identity and sexual orientation. So they took it to the court to solve this headache. Now there is been a settlement between both parties but the folks at Equality Florida are pretty stoked about the outcome.

Now you might also be wondering that what is the settlement. Well there is two statements the governor’s office is claiming victory by saying that the law will stay in effect but on the other hand the lawyers for Equality Florida  also claiming their win.

The are saying that this settlement bring an important clarity in the law and according to them this law was so vague before this settlement. And they are claiming that  that law was the main cause of confusion and fear among the students, parents and teachers.

People were worried about that what they could and couldn’t say or do in schools but this settlement will bring a clarification to them. They were worried that could kids talk about their families? Could teachers hang up Safe Space stickers? The law wasn’t clear, and that was causing a lot of stress. But now, thanks to the settlement, things are a bit clearer. Environment is little easier now kids can talk about their families in the schools and teachers can also hang up Safe Space stickers.

John Quinn one of the lawyers for Equality Florida said that he and his team members are thrilled with the settlement. He said that this settlement make it clear that instruction only refers to formal teaching such as lesson plans and curriculum. So, casual conversations and discussions are still fair game.

But here’s the thing: the settlement only covers the original law. This law extended the ban to all grades and even banned gender-affirming pronouns in the classrooms. But this law does not touch the expansion that came later. So we can say that this settlement is a step in the right direction but there is still a long way to go. So that is the lowdown on the law “Don’t Say Gay” and on the recent settlement. It is important but complex issue.

And I think it is no matter where you stand on it but in my opinion it is a conversation that is worth having. Because at the end of the day everyone deserves that they feel safe and respected no matter who they are or who they love.
